Welcome to the Achievement Initiatives Website!
The Achievement Initiatives Team, serving Washtenaw and Livingston County educators, focuses on creating and sustaining high quality learning environments. This is done through collaborative initiatives focusing on research-based, innovative, and inclusive models of teaching and learning.
Ongoing initiatives include the Adolescent Literacy Initiative, a teacher professional learning network focusing on the Reading Apprenticeship Framework, the Writing Collaborative, a teacher network developing and supporting writing practices across the content areas, Studying Math Learning, a reframing of mathematics instruction to focus on problem-solving, and Instructional Consultation Teams, an instructional support model that utilizes a problem solving process for all teachers to help them reflect on and develop instruction for all students. Emerging initiatives center around building 21st century learning environments while implementing the Common Core State Standards. These include an elementary literacy task force, an ELA common assessment development group, a next generation science task force, an adaptive leadership network, and a formative assessment action research project. All of the initiatives focus on the development of instructional leaders, improvement of academic achievement, the needs of the whole child, inclusive learning environments, an asset (rather than deficit) based approach, and building systems that support struggling and disenfranchised students. The initiatives also are aligned with the Washtenaw ISD 20/20 Education First vision and the Livingston ESA Strategic Plan. This website is provided for leaders in Washtenaw and Livingston Counties. It contains the most current information regarding curriculum, assessment, instruction, and policy. Please use the navigation bar above to learn about our current initiatives and to access resources.
